Sportsgirl 'Pout About It! Lipsticks review

 

 

One of my favourite beauty products is lipsticks. A good lippie makes all the difference in the beauty world. So when I found out about Sportsgirls lipstick range 'Pout About it' lipsticks I was very excited to try them out and I must say straight up  - they are great! 

 

 I was sent two colours to try, Beauty Queen and Bright Time.

 

  I love the packaging. It looks elegant, is sturdy and love that you can see the colour on the bottom of the lipstick. Beauty Queen is a cool-toned pink and has a glossy crème finish.

The pigmentation on these lipsticks are really good. The colours I have are both pretty and last a good few hours (with no eating or drinking) They apply easily on the lips and feel creamy. Bright Time is a brighter pink but wearable which is nice.

Overall great lipsticks and definitely recommend them to anyone looking for affordable lipsticks that are good quality!

Covergirl Lip Perfection Lip Liner Review

Lately I have been trying out quite a few lip liners. I have been trying to find one that will last on my lips all day and look good and I have found the Covergirl Lip Perfection Lip Liner in the colour smoky (205).

This lip liner feels creamy and applies smoothly on the lips. It lasts a good eight hours for me and that is through eating and drinking too. The colour I have is smoky number 205, which is a nude pink colour that looks great with most lipstick colours.

Covergirl says  - Transform your lip look with moisture-rich definition. Created to work perfectly with COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lip colour, our lip liner formula contains over 60% skin conditioners, so you can line and define with moisturizing rich colour.

There are four shades that this lip liner comes which are all nice colours. They have vitamin E in them which makes them feel soft and smooth on the lips. A great buy at $11.95 for a great quality lip liner.

Skincare routine with Clinique face products

The last time I tried Clinique skincare products was at least a few years ago. A few months ago, Clinique had a gift with purchase offer that I liked so I picked up a few products that I wanted to try. I have really been liking them and they are my current skincare routine (until I try other products!) which I wanted to show you.

Clinique skincare products are pretty reasonably priced for a high end product which I like. This combination of products work well on my combination skin.

First product is the Facial Liquid Soap mild 200ml bottle, Clinique says: All the benefits of Clinique's dermatologist-developed Facial Soap in a liquid formula. Cleanses without stripping protective lipids. Preps skin for the exfoliating action of Clarifying Lotion. Convenient pump dispenses just the right amount. I like that this comes with a pump and it works really well. It is a mild product that feels soft when applying to the face and leaves the skin feeling amazingly clean, soft and supple. It is non drying to my skin and one pump is enough for the whole face. Really love this product!

The second one is the Turnaround Overnight Radiance Moisturiser, Clinique says: Instantly reveals a healthy radiance. Gently replaces dull, worn-out surface cells with livelier, more luminous ones. Skin breathes. Accepts moisture better. Then, it optimises up-and-coming cells to help the best and brightest emerge. So day after day, skin seems to glow from within. Becomes smoother over time.  This is a nice product that feels silky soft when applied on the face, it absorbs well and the next morning my skin feels nice and hydrated. I have combination skin and this works well, does not leave my skin feeling oily which is nice.

The third one is All about Eyes, Clinique says: Lightweight eye cream diminishes the appearance of eye puffs, darkness and fine lines. Non-creep, cream/gel formula actually helps hold eye makeup in place. For use morning and night, both under eyes and on lids. Ophthalmologist Tested. This is a great eye cream which applies smoothly when applied. It takes a few minutes to sink into the skin. It does a great job of hydrating the under eye area and leaving it feeling smooth. I have tried a lot of eye creams and this one is the only one I will use now, because I like the results.

The fourth one is Dramatically different moisturizing gel, Clinique says: The oil-free moisture "drink" developed by Clinique's dermatologists to maintain optimal moisture balance for skins comfortable in the cheeks but oily in the T-zone or oily all over. Oil-free formula softens, smooths, improves. This is a great moisturiser that is easy to apply and does not feel oily or greasy at all. It is great to use as a primer under makeup and feels lightweight on the skin.

Overall all of these products work really well on my combination skin type.

My makeup collection storage - drawer and cabinet

As I love my makeup and beauty products so much, I really need to have a system of storing all my products in a organised way. After months and months of looking for something I found a affordable storage system from Officeworks, yep Officeworks!

I was looking for something that wouldn't take up much space but that would be easy for me to access my makeup and easy to find or look for products. So I found the 10 Drawer Chrome Trolley- Multi Colour Brights from Officeworks It is a chrome frame with wheels and has twelve drawers. You can wheel it around anywhere and the drawers are easy to slide out.

 

 

 

I have labelled my drawers and am able to keep all my products laid out so I can see what I have (as seen in pictures above) I am not someone who collects makeup as such, I write down the date I purchase the product and always throw out products that are expired. I like to try out a lot of products for myself and to review for my blog, so I always make sure that I change up my makeup and use different products. I use makeup everyday so I do go through a lot of products.

I store all my products in the drawers except for nailpolish, my foundation , brushes and some other products which I keep in a two door cabinet. (as pictured above). On top of this cabinet I have the products I use on a daily basis and rotate them weekly.

I keep my makeup storage in my study which makes these drawers suitable for my study. For now I am happy with my storage and like that it is organised and easy to access.

Won't back down DVD and Now is good DVD Giveaway.....(CLOSED)

Recently I was sent some great movies to watch and loved them both!

The two movies are Won't Back Down and Now Is Good both available on DVD and Blu-ray April 3, 2013.

Won't Back Down is a movie of courage, parenthood and friendship. (and inspired by actual events)

Storyline: A story of two mothers (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis) with children who have dyslexia and are failing in an inner city school in Pittsburgh -  join forces to take back the school and turn it into a place of learning. Along the way there are obstacles such as dealing with the school board, the parents and the teachers union. But before they can change the school for the better, they must first battle the parents, the school board, and the teachers union. Because this is for their children, they won't back down from this enormous challenge.

The movie is predictable, but I liked what the characters brought to the movie and the topic is something that each parent and child can relate to in some way. It made me laugh and cry as well. It is a inspiring movie that shows us - if you really want something to change, it can if you really try.

Now is good is a movie of love, reality and sadness.

Storyline: Tessa (played by Dakota Fanning) is seventeen and passionate about life. Diagnosed with a leukemia, she determines to use every moment, compiling a list of what a normal teenager would experience, including losing her virginity and taking drugs. With the help of her friend Zoey, she sets the list in motion. While her family deals with fear and grief each in their own way - her dad being the worried and obsessive father and her mother unable to bear it, Tessa explores a whole new world. Falling in love with Adam, her new neighbour, wasn't on the list, but it proves to be the most memorable experience of them all.

The movie does a great job of showing emotion and anger from seventeen year old Tessa who shows us what it is like to know that she is going to die. I cried more than once in this movie. It certainly makes you appreciate what we have in life.

Beauty tip: Change your pillowcase daily

One thing that I have been doing for years and I think it really is a simple, yet effective beauty tip is that I change my pillowcase every night.

I have combination skin and am prone to getting breakouts, but have found that by changing my pillowcase daily, it helps to keep my face clean and reduce my breakouts.

Our pillowcase collects all kinds of dirt that can clog your pores, things like shampoo/conditioner residue or creams, sweat, drool and more.

By changing your pillowcase frequently it allows eliminating of the shreds of hair, skin, and dead skin cells, that affect your skin and in turn cause breakouts.

Changing your pillow case daily or every other day can help keep your skin happier and cleaner!

I also like to buy a new pillow every two to three years. There are two things that you can check for to see if you need to buy a new pillow:

1. Check for signs of odor, mold, and mildew. If any of these are present, then you need a new  pillow.

2. The fold test? Fold your pillow in half and then let go. Natural down pillows should bounce back slowly. Synthetic down pillows should bounce back with some force. For memory foam, push down on the center of the pillow. When you let go, the pillow should regain its shape. If not you need a new pillow.

I would definitely recommend trying to change your pillowcase often and seeing if that makes a difference for you.

Book review: Ripples on a Pond by Joy Dettman

Today I am doing a book review on the book -  Ripples on a Pond by author Joy Dettman. This is the 5th novel in the Woody Creek series and portrays Australian life.

The book is about the characters of Woody Creek and the adventures of the past and present, that have you wandering what will happen next. At the start, the book takes you back in time and relives the lives of the characters so that you know the history and then seamlessly goes forward into the story.

I really enjoyed reading this book, as it is written in a way that is easy to follow the story and the adventures that it goes through, are so real.

Synopsis:  Woody Creek is preparing for its centenary celebrations - bur for many of its townspeople it's just another reminder of the old days, before so-called progress roared through the town, altering everything in its wake.
Not for Georgie though. As the clock ticks over to 1970's, she's determined that the new decade will be the one that sees her finally break free.
For Cara, Woody Creek will forever be tied to a devastating mistake that cannot be undone. She's vowed never to set foot in the place again.
Meanwhile, Jenny's estranged son, Jim, has inherited an estate in the United Kingdom and is trying to make a new life for himself. If only he could shake off his one terrible attachment to Australia.
As Woody Creek draws Joy Dettman's much loved cast of characters back into its grip, confessions, discoveries and truths seem certain to explode in the most shocking of showdowns......

I love that the book is based on events in Australia and interwines so well with the events that happened decades ago and are challenging the characters in the story as they encounter love,  jealousy and deception. The book keeps the reader encapulated in the story - that you won't want to put it down, until you have read the whole book!
